Proverbs 6:28 "Can one go upon coals, and his feet not be burned?"
So basically what I saw in this verse, is the lesson of consequences. What I saw it translated as, was that you can't 'push the red button and not expect and explosion.' So I know that we normally think that consequences always have to do with bad things, because all the sermons (and lessons) that we've heard have always been 'THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES FOR YOUR SIN.' Now that IS true…I'm not disputing that AT ALL! But also I don't think that most people of it in the opposite sense. If you do a good thing, there will be a consequence for that! I think that we've been 'trained' to think that consequences is only a word the gets used when we do something bad, or screw up something in our lives. Like okay, you always hear "I know that you stole that and there WILL be consequences for your sin"…I've NEVER heard anyone say "there will be consequences for you giving that missionary $100" Know what I mean? I goes what I'm saying is that it'd be cool if we could change the way we've been programed to think about consequences. Start thinking "HEY…If I do this or that, what are the awesome consequences going to be"…I'll bet when you read that it sounded weird…it's the way we've been 'programmed…consequences have ALWAYS carried a bad connotation. You know, as long as you're aren't JUST trying to further your own gain, there is NOTHING wrong with wanting to get rewarded by God for doing good things! It's not a sin to expect God to reward you for doing something good…shoot…we EXPECT God to do something bad to us when we do something bad, so why not switch it up. Do good and EXPECT something good to 'happen back.' Maybe you don't always get physical and material things…maybe God rewards you with a AWESOME grade on a test, or keeps you from being in a car crash, or even makes the policeman not pay attention so that he doesn't see you going 80 in a 60!;) Anyways…look to do good things and see what happens. Don't make consequences a word that only gets used when something bad or wrong happens.
P.S: I don't think I'd be to far off if I guessed that when you read the title you thought this would be about 'sin finding you out'?

Wow, as I was reading this...I'm thinking....SOOOO true!! One of the biggest reasons most people aren't successful is because of alot of self negative talk! your mind will almost always achieve what you are thinking...I was reading the other day, and read this true story:... "Nick Sitzman was a strong, healthy, and ambitious young railroad yardman. He had a reputation as a diligent hard worker and had a loving wife and 2 children and many friends. One midsummer day, the train crews were informed that they could quit an hour early in honor of the foreman's birthday. While performing one last check on some of the railroad cars, Nick was accidentally locked in a refrigerator boxcar. When he realized that the rest of the workman had left the site, Nick began to panic. He banged and shouted until his fists were bloody and his voice was hoarse, but no one could hear him. With his knowledge of "the numbers and the facts" he predicted the temperature to be zero degrees. Nick's thought was if I can't get out, I'll freeze to death in here. Wanting to let his wife a and family know exactly what happened to him, Nick found a knife and began to etch words on the wooden floor. He wrote, "It's so cold, my body is getting numb. If I could just go to sleep. These may be my last words." The next morning, the crew slid open the heavy doors of the boxcar and found Nick dead. An autopsy revealed that every physical sign of his body indicated he had frozen to death. And yet the refrigeration unit was only 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Nick had killed himself by the power of his own thoughts."
ReplyDeleteHey, if someones thoughts could kill them...Your thoughts can can either nurture or kill and destroy your dreams and goals. Don't limit your thinking, and don't think negatively, if you think negatively all the time you will slowly deaden your natural ability to achieve your dreams!
But if you think positively, it will help you immensely in achieving your dreams!
BTW, the book I got that story from is called "The Success Principles" If you have not read this book, I highly recommend it. It is filled with tons of priceless stuff and ideas, that would help anyone! to find out more about the book and to buy it check out this link...

Thanks Levi!
And remember guy's stop the criticizing, destructive, negative self talk and thinking...It'll bog you down!
Wow, that is a very long comment. ;-) :P :) ..But I feel like it has some good content...and was worth the time I spent on it, if people read it.
DeleteDude I just read that story to! And ya, your mind and thought (weird though it sounds) do ACTUALLY change things and make 'impossible things' possible!!!
DeleteMe and Christian practice gymnastic type stuff out at the barn on mats, and your point is right on. if you think "Man...I don't think I can do this front-flip" well the you CANNOT do it, even though you're physically able to. Your thoughts do really control all of your actions, good and bad!! It's crazy, but really cool......as long as you think positively!
Hey no problem...it was fun reading it, and it was really good!!:D
Per the long comment...you're docked from coming to one of my AWESOME parties!!:P
ok, so what does being docked from a party mean? lol! :P
DeleteYou shall find out;)
Deletelol....oh dear.. :-/ :) :P
DeleteI was just thinking some more on this, and was reading in my Bible, and came across a verse very relevant to this subject.
ReplyDeletePhilippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
There is is in black and white, clear as day, straight from the Bible! We're supposed to think about good, positive things! It doesn't get much clearer than that.
in, Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
Here, it talks about how having a merry heart, is actually like medicine, but a broken spirit actually dries your bones, (in other words, is not good for you!)
Really, look this stuff up in the Bible, it's plain as day in both of those verses that we ARE supposed to think POSITIVELY!! :)
Anyway, just one more little comment I had on the subject. :) :)
