Proverbs 19:11 "The discretion of a man deffereth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression"
Okay, so this is kinda an anger management verse, but kinda not. Loosely translated in the ALAV, Solomon is saying, Hey dude, a little tip...when you get angry or somthin' and you have a chance to give 'pay back', run it through your brain first to reason out all the consequences of your actions. So we've all see it happen with other people, and if we're honest with ourselves we're also guilty of this, but something will happen that really ticks us off...sometimes rightfully so, sometimes not...and we just totally blow up about it and go all Kung-Fu Panda on the person! Now what good does that do, besides showing off your awesome anger skills? None. It simply makes us look immature and partially ruins our relationship with that person. So taking from what Solomon said, we need to think over the consequences of our actions to see if it really is going to be worth it. Most times it's not. To be HONEST, this is something that I still work on:/ But I've found that if, when something ticks you off, you take a BIG deep breath and yell at the person mentally without looking at them, then look back at them it's surprising how most of the anger dissipates!!:D Is it worth ranting and raving at someone for ripping a nice big hole in a pair of your nicest jeans? Probably not! Also if the issue/problem isn't a big deal, it is GLORY to just let it go. If you do that then it makes you look like the bigger person. I'm not saying that you WANT to try to make the other person feel guilty, but if you do something to someone else on purpose or accidentally that could make them angry, how does it feel when that person doesn't give a reaction, and they simply calmly tell you "it's okay." You feel MUCh worse that if they had totally blown up at you. I'm not saying we WANT to make others feel bad, but I AM saying that sometimes/most of the time it's A LOT better just to 'Let it Go'
Some great thoughts Levi...I was reading in Proverbs the other day and found a similar verse... "Proverbs 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city."
ReplyDeleteThen another place in Proverbs it says
"Proverbs 14:29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly."
And then over in Psalms it says
"Psalms 103:8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
I was like wow, ok so if I'm quick to get angry the Bible calls me foolish, But if I keep my spirit and anger under control I'm better than a mighty man taking a city...And not only that, but I'm also living more like Christ if I am slow to anger...I'm thinking... It's probably worth it keeping in control of yourself and being slow to angry....Good deal :)
And the Bible even takes it a step further than that. "Proverbs 22:24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:"
Anyway great post Levi! Some excellent thoughts here. Sorry this comment got a little longer than I intended. :P :)
*clears throat* ok...wow!!!!! haha....this was a really good take...even through all the digs!!!!!:Plol Being serious, you are very right about this!!! Anger is something many struggle with!! Like you said....it's better to Kiss Anger Bye-Bye!!!! People don't know how to handle it when they hurt you and you take it and shrug it off...they expect the anger but get what they did not expect and they don't to react to it!!!! I do have to say though...Kung Fu Panda usually fixes the situation!!!!!:Plol And the jean problem was probably your own fault!!!!!!:D:Plol btw...what is ALAV?!?!?
ReplyDeleteThis was a really good take on this verse...good job Levi!!!:)
Btw...if doing it in your head doesn't work...sometimes it helps if you just get away from the person and take it out on something else....like playing sports or weeding the garden or ...idk...anything that takes some type of labor...it usually takes the anger away after a little while!!!!:Plol
*they don't know how to react to it!!!!
ReplyDelete@Breanna, Playing basketball helps clear your head too and take the anger away....lol I'm serious though.
ReplyDeleteHaha...that's funny that you should say that...that's the sport I use all the time for these kind of situations!!!!:Plol
Delete(This is Levi. Google won't let me sign in right now. Grrr)
ReplyDelete@Eli Ya once you start looking, the Bible has A LOT to say about anger!!! I didn't come cross the verse about not being a friend with an angry person, but its a really good one!! Not only will the friendship not benefit you, but most likely it'll make you more angry as well, because the Bible says that who you hang around is who you will become like!!! That's probably why people who hang around me a lot become progressively AWESOMER!!:Plol
@Bre Thanks!!!:D. Ya...I think that most of the time it's MUCH better to just not say anything and just shrug it off rather than yell! People are naturally ready to be yelled at when they do something that makes somebody
else mad, so when you just stay quiet it totally throws them for a loop and makes them more truly sorry than if you had yelled at them. Kinda a silent guilt thing. All around it's just so much better to let it go!! Okay...for those of us who CAN do Kung Fu Panda...yes....but since you can't I'd suggest sticking to the punching bag!!:P. Okay I'm going to set this straight...MY han was on the pump first...NOT yours...YOU barged in!!!!:D. ALAV stands for Awesome Levi Arnold Version!!!:). Yeah I agree...pretty much any physical activity takes the anger away!!! Everybody has their own thing! I'm glad you liked it!!! I'm really hoping these are helping you guys in SOME way!!!!!!!!!!! They are a lot of fun to do!
You're very right....speaking from experience!!!:/ Ohhhh....who said i CAN'T?!?!? mmmm....you're faith in my abilities is astonishing!!!!:Plol Ohhhhh NO!!!!! That is not true!!!!!!! I had the bucket and the pump...you came in to get the bucket...i saved the bucket and you got the pump...i was just getting back what was rightfully my place!!!!:Plol hmmmm...you know what...maybe you should take some of your own advice..."LET IT GO"!!!!!:Plol They are really good...and yes...it is helping!!!!:) Although I found with mine that I learn SO much from doing it....idk if it's helping others, but I do know it is helping me!!!!!:)
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad...I speak from experience to:/
ReplyDeleteI did!!:) Actually NO....I had the bucket and was at the pump first!!! I KNOW so!!!!:D Okay...okay.....I'll let it go....*deep breath*...there!!:D
Okay, I'm glad it is!!:D Haha yep, the same thing happens to me!!! I start writing and it's like I'm getting a sermon preached at me!!:D It's cool!! Yes, yours is helping too!!:D
And YOU would be WRONG!!!!!:Plol OH....NUH UH!!!!!!!!....mmmmm....ok....fine....I've heard this one before...we'll see how long it lasts!!!! :D:Plol
ReplyDeleteHaha...you're right...that is what it is like...but with me I wouldn't say a sermon...it's a lesson...gotta keep it feminine!!:Plol awww...good!!!:D
I'm NEVER wrong on these things!!!:). Hey...I LET IT GO!!!....you should too!!:D. Ya and it's really cool!!!:D. Oh fine!...it's a LESSON to me as I write it!!! Question for you...what's the difference between a lesson and a sermon?!;)
ReplyDeleteOH...NEVER say NEVER...there's is ALWAYS a first!!!!!:Plol. OH....yah right....who is the one who brought it up on his blog?!?!?...HMMMM?!?!?...Yah....that's what i thought!!!!:Plol. No...its fine....yours can be a sermons...but my blog?!?! there lessons cause I'm a girl!!!!:Dlol hmmmm....good q.....well....a lesson teaches....but so does a sermon.....ummmmm I guess you would say a sermon is a guys approach!!!!:Dlol
ReplyDeleteWhatever!!:). You know what....I'm just going to forget about it!!!:D. Oh okay...that makes sense!! I guess I would say that sermons are on Sunday and lessons are any other day. I'm jus saying what I think!:)
ReplyDeleteHuh...about time!!!!:Plol. ummmm....no....cause here at HAC we have sermons every day....LITERALLY!!!!!:Dlol
